The Seattle Mariners will once again have an extra pick early during the MLB Draft.

The Mariners were awarded the second Competitive Balance Round B pick in the 2026 draft earlier this week. Round B takes place following the second round of the draft.

This will be the sixth time the Mariners have had a competitive balance pick over the past eight drafts. They’ve used some those picks to select future major leaguers Isaiah Campbell and Connor Phillips, as well as farmhands Jonny Farmelo and Luke Stevenson (who are both ranked in the organization’s top 10 prospects by MLB Pipeline). Both Campbell and Phillips were Comp Round B picks. Farmelo and Stevenson were Comp Round A picks, which occur between the first and second rounds.

The Mariners could also use their 2026 comp pick as a trade chip, as they are the only MLB draft picks available to be traded.

The 2026 MLB Draft takes place July 11-12 in Philadelphia. The Mariners hold the No. 24 overall pick in the first round.

The MLB Draft lottery, which will determine picks Nos. 1-18, takes place Dec. 9 during the winter meeting in Orlando.

Naylor honored by home country

Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor was named the winner of the 2025 James Tip O’Neil award by the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum on Thursday.

The award is given annually to the Canadian player who excelled in individual achievement and team contribution while adhering to baseball’s highest ideals. Naylor’s competition included Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Cleveland Guardians closer Cade Smith.

This is the second time winning the award for Naylor, who also took home the honors in 2023. He’s the second player to win it as a Mariners, joining 2018 winner James Paxton.

A Mississauga, Ont., native, Naylor hit .295 with an .816 OPS, 29 doubles, 20 home runs, 92 RBIs and 30 stolen bases over 147 games with the Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks this season.

After arriving in Seattle in a July 27 trade, he batted .299 with an .831 OPS, 10 doubles, nine home runs, 33 RBIs and 19 stolen bases over 54 games while helping the M’s clinch their first AL West title since 2001.

Naylor re-signed with Seattle on a five-year contract reportedly worth $92.5 million on Nov. 17.
