The Boston Red Sox have been connected to Joe Ryan in trade rumors for many months now.

Ryan was falsely reported to be headed to Boston at the 2025 trade deadline, and desires for an eventual union are not dead amongst Red Sox fans.

Unfortunately, there hasn’t been a ton of buzz out of the Minnesota Twins’ camp indicating that they are overeager to trade Ryan, who is expected to land a salary somewhere around $5.8 million in 2026 via arbitration (a bargain if he continues to pitch like an ace or No. 2).

If and when Ryan’s availability increases, the Red Sox won’t be Ryan’s lone suitor with capable pockets, either. Far from it.

According to a new report from New York Post‘s Jon Heyman, the New York Mets are interested in Ryan as they look to bolster their 2026 rotation and get back to the playoffs after a deeply disappointing 2025..

“The Mets may try to fill their rotation needs via trade, and they are stocked with outstanding prospects,” Heyman wrote (subscription required).

“Joe Ryan is among starters of interest to the Mets. The Twins are believed to like Jonah Tong.”

Ryan’s 2025 season anchored the Twins’ pitching staff amid a challenging 70-win campaign. The 29-year-old right-hander earned his first All-Star nod, posting a 13-10 record with a 3.42 ERA over 171 innings in 30 starts. He fanned 194 batters while issuing just 39 walks, boasting a 1.04 WHIP and holding opponents to a .218 average.

Ryan dominated early, logging a 2.72 ERA through mid-July with consistent quality outings. A late fade saw him surrender 12 homers in September, inflating his ERA to 6.75 that month.
