It was only a few years ago that the Texas Rangers were World Series champions, finally capturing the elusive trophy that had evaded them for so long. However, fast forward just two seasons, and the Rangers have now missed the playoffs multiple years in a row, with things being in flux.
There have been reports that Texas is now looking to shed salary this winter, and it could see them move some crucial pieces to the team. One of those is veteran right-hander Jacob deGrom, who is a contract that would drastically help the Rangers get to their financial goals this offseason.
deGrom is coming off a very nice season with the Rangers, but Texas also missed the playoffs. If the Rangers were to trade deGrom, it would free up salary relief, but it could also be a tough move due to his large contract.
The veteran is owed $38 million for this coming season, $37 million for 2027, and then finally has a club option for $20 million in the final season. Any team that would trade for him would have to take this on, and it could complicate talks for him.
Even at his age, deGrom remains one of the more consistent arms on the mound when healthy. However, health problems have been his undoing over the past few years, and teams may be wary of this.
Last season, deGrom put up an ERA of 2.92 over 30 starts with Texas. deGrom also struck out 185 batters over 172.2 innings of work, while also posting a WHIP of 0.92 for the season.
It remains to be seen if the Rangers will be able to offload the contract of deGrom, but there could be one team that takes a gamble on him. deGrom can be a strong addition for any team, but there are plenty of factors that make a trade of him complicated.
This is just a prediction, NOT a report!

Jacob deGrom Traded to Baltimore Orioles
One team that may be willing to take a chance on adding deGrom to the roster could be the Baltimore Orioles. Baltimore has fallen down in terms of contention over the past few years, but the team has been rumored to want to spend this offseason.
The Orioles have a solid core in place, but they need help in the starting pitching department. Adding deGrom to the mix could give them an ace-level pitcher to build around for the next few seasons.
With his injury concerns, this would be a risk for Baltimore, but the team could really take off if he were healthy. deGrom has proven that he can still be dominant on the mound, and he could give this team a go-to guy in the rotation.
Baltimore has the pieces that could entice the Rangers to make a deal, and deGrom could help them go after another position appearance. If Texas were to eat some of the salary of deGrom, this deal could be a little easier for the team to make, but the willingness of the Rangers is unknown.
Overall, deGrom heading to Baltimore could give the Orioles a chance to be competitive in the American League East again. His presence alone would make this team tougher, and it could be a solid move for the next few seasons.
