The Detroit Tigers are in the hunt for Alex Bregman once again. According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, the Tigers continue to be connected to Bregman, who nearly signed with the organization last offseason. However, will the former Boston Red Sox third baseman be Detroit’s priority?

Ahead of the Winter Meetings, Feinsand reported that Detroit’s rotation and bullpen appear to be bigger priorities than Bregman. The starting rotation is strong, but the Tigers could lose their top three pitchers (Tarik Skubal, Jack Flaherty, Casey Mize) to free agency next offseason.

Therefore, the Tigers would benefit from locking up a long-term starter to make the 2026 MLB offseason easier on the team. Plus, it would give Detroit its best chance of maximizing Skubal’s window before he enters free agency. The rotation would be among the league’s best with another elite starter.

The Tigers’ need for bullpen pieces is understandable after their struggles in 2025. The “pitching chaos” magic used in 2024 diminished, leaving Detroit in the market for swing-and-miss relievers. Bregman should be a priority for Detroit in the coming days and weeks, but he may not be the top target.
