The New York Yankees may very well trade Jasson Dominguez this offseason, particularly if they re-sign Cody Bellinger.
Dominguez was benched late this past season, and with Trent Grisham returning, there would be no room for Dominguez in the starting outfield if Bellinger re-ups. And remember: the 22-year-old is also competing with top prospect Spencer Jones, as well.

It seems relatively hard to imagine the Yankees keeping both Dominguez and Jones in that scenario, which is why New York may choose to move one of them for a piece that could help the team elsewhere. Like it starting rotation.
ESPN’s Tristan Cockroft has pitched an idea in which the Yankees would send Dominguez to the Miami Marlins in exchange for pitcher Edward Cabrera, who has been floated as a potential target for New York multiple times recently.
“Cabrera is a talented, albeit injury-prone, starter who can provide critical rotation depth while the team waits for the healthy returns of Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon and Clarke Schmidt,” Cockroft wrote. “Dominguez’s two additional years of team control might make this a slight overpay for the Yankees, but Cabrera’s projected $3.7 million salary via arbitration could make him an ideal, budget-conscious acquisition.”

Actually, Cabrera wouldn’t just be a depth piece. The former top prospect proved in 2025 that he has frontline stuff, logging a 3.53 ERA while racking up 150 strikeouts over 137.2 innings of work. He also flashed much better control than previous years, posting a 3.1 BB/9 as opposed to his lifetime average of 4.5 BB/9.

Cabrera broke into the big leagues in 2021 and flashed incredible potential over his first several seasons, but never really put it together until this past year. It should be noted, however, that the 27-year-old missed some time due to elbow discomfort in 2025, which is a bit of a red flag.
Dominguez would fit the bill in terms of what the Marlins are seeking. Miami has plenty of pitching depth, but it needs talented young hitters, so perhaps the Fish would accept a Dominguez-led return from New York.
That being said, Cabrera is under team control through 2028, so the Marlins may ask for a more robust package in return from the Yankees.
Regardless, if this deal is actually on the table for New York, it’s one it should absolutely explore provided that the cost isn’t too extravagant.
