According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Boston Red Sox are acquiring right-handed pitcher Johan Oviedo from the Pirates in a deal that will send outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia back to Pittsburgh. In total, it’s a five-player trade.
Two others moving in the Oviedo-for-Garcia deal, per sources, include left-hander Tyler Samaniego and catcher Adonys Guzman, who are going to the Red Sox. The Pirates also get pitcher Jesus Travieso.
The 22-year-old Garcia (No. 3 prospect) can play all three outfield positions which he did last season at Triple-A. He finished batting .267 with 21 homers and 75 RBIs. His OPS was .818 while his OBP was .340.
