In a move that was almost expected, Alex Bregman ended up opting out of his contract with the Boston Red Sox as the 2025 season ended to test free agency, as he hopes to land a long-term deal. Bregman did the same last free agency period, but didn’t have the market like he expected, so he re-signed with the Red Sox.
This offseason is different, as he has been rumored to have numerous teams interested in signing him. One of the teams that has come out saying they “aren’t interested” is the Baltimore Orioles, but as the offseason progresses, this statement could be more smoke than actually true. If this ends up being the case, this would make for an ideal free agency signing for both sides.

The reason Baltimore has claimed they don’t have interest in Alex Bregman is because of having players like Gunnar Henderson, Jordan Westburg, and Jackson Holliday fill up their infield and want them as their long-term future. While this is a good strategy to build for the future, they lack infield depth, and need to find a way to improve their offense so they don’t finish with a 75-87 record again.
The way they can accomplish this is by signing Alex Bregman. There is already a connecting factor here as Mike Elias, who is the Orioles’ president of baseball operations, was on the Houston Astros in 2015 when they drafted Bregman, so he knows the talent he can provide.
Signing Alex Bregman would be giving Baltimore a player with postseason experience, and overall experience that he can pass on to the younger players. Bregman also has shown stabilizing play throughout his career with a .272/.365/.481 slash line, 209 home runs and 725 RBIs.
His experience and play would both be beneficial to helping the Orioles get back on track, and for Alex Bregman, going to a team like Baltimore that has shown glimpses of potential would give him a team can truly turnaround and compete with.
