When will the New York Yankees get going with their offseason moves? As with just about every MLB offseason, New York’s team from the Bronx is expected to make a plethora of roster changes to help improve going into 2026. However, at this moment, they are going in the wrong direction, especially given the other moves taking place in the American League East.
New York already lost its closer, Devin Williams, to the cross-town rival Mets, and the Blue Jays have already signed two starters to long-term deals, and the Red Sox have also made two meaningful trades this offseason. It appears to be an all-out arms race in the most competitive division in baseball, but what should the Yankees do to kick their offseason off?

Should the Yankees Trade For MacKenzie Gore?
As MLB’s Winter Meetings are just a few days away, rumors on the trade front are starting to swirl from all angles. Washington Nationals starter MacKenzie Gore was the subject of trade rumors back in July, and those rumors seemingly have popped back up again.
MLB insiders Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel recently came out with an article regarding the top offseason trade candidates, and Gore is listed as the ninth-best option, with a 30% chance of being moved before Opening Day.

The New York Yankees are among a handful of teams that are named as a best fit.
However, this is a deal that the Yankees must make to keep pace with the other AL East giants. It’s become very apparent that the Blue Jays may be willing to spend up to a $billion dollars this offseason.
Considering the Nationals have a new president of baseball operations in Paul Toboni, he may want to kick off his tenure with a bang and trade one of the team’s most promising arms for a haul in return.

MacKenzie Gore Would Slot in Perfectly in the Yankees’ Rotation
With the Yankees already dealing with starting pitching injuries before the season even close to getting started, they must add an arm or two this offseason.
Gore was named to the All-Star team in 2025 and posted a 4.17 ERA over 30 starts and 157.2 innings pitched.
He wouldn’t be relied on to be the Yankees’ ace, but Gore would be a quality No.3/No.4 rotation option for New York.
Gore is projected by BaseballReference.com to post a 4.10 ERA over 156 innings in 2026.
As the MLB Winter Meetings get started, following what Brian Cashman and the rest of the Yankees’ front office plan this offseason will be one of the biggest storylines.
With so many teams in the AL believing they can contend, New York will have to flex its muscles during this hot stove season if it wants to keep pace with the other contenders.
