The 2025 Seattle Mariners will be forever etched in franchise history for all the right reasons.

The 2025 squad was one game away from the World Series for the first time since the franchise was established in 1977. The team boasted five All-Stars, won its first American League West title since 2001, made its first American League Championship Series since ’01 and it did all this despite injuries to starting infielders, outfielders and pitchers.

It was a team that inspired Seattle and had massive crowds outside T-Mobile Park dancing to Nirvana and The Killers.

Apparently, fans outside the Pacific Northwest were also inspired by the ’25 Mariners.

According to a story published by Zac Hereth of Seattle Sports, Seattle was the top trending sports team for the year, according to Google searches.

The Mariners beat out championship and pennant-winning teams such as the 2025 NBA champions (and former Seattle SuperSonics) the Oklahoma City Thunder, which were the No. 2 trending sports team.

The team that Seattle lost to in the ALCS, the Toronto Blue Jays, were the No. 4-most searched trending sports team.

The top 10 most-searched trending sports teams were, in order: the Mariners, the Thunder, the Indiana Pacers, the Blue Jays, Paris Saint-Germain F.C., Los Angeles FC, S.L. Benfica, Club Leon, San Diego FC and Fluminense FC.

On top of the Mariners’ postseason push, one of the team’s best players had arguably the greatest single season by a player of his position in MLB history.

Cal Raleigh made the first All-Star game of his career and became the first catcher in MLB history to win the Home Run Derby.

Raleigh scored 110 runs in 159 games, and hit 24 doubles and 60 home runs with 125 RBIs. He slashed .247/.359/.589 with a .948 OPS. His 60 homers were the most in a single season by a catcher and switch-hitter in MLB history. They were also the most home runs ever hit by a Mariners player.

Raleigh finished second in American League MVP voting behind New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge. Raleigh earned 13 first-place votes and 17 second-place votes and Judge earned 17 first-place votes and 13 second-place votes.

Raleigh’s season, his growing amount of endorsements and nickname, the “Big-Dumper” helped him become a nationally-recognized player, and he certainly is responsible for some of those Google searches.
