The Houston Astros are hot on the trail of free agent SP Ranger Suarez, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

In his recent article regarding the top 5 free agent starters on the market, Feinsand noted the Astros, Cubs and Orioles as the three teams as the most serious threats to signing Suarez away from Philadelphia. He noted the Mets and Tigers as also showing interest.

Suarez went 12-8 with a 3.20 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 2025. He pitched a career high 157.1 IP, the third time in the past 4 seasons he has topped 150 innings. He also posted a terrific 3.97 K/BB ratio, with 151K and only 38 BB last season.

Additionally, over the last 4 postseasons, Suarez has been brilliant. In 11 appearances including 8 starts, Suarez has gone 4-1 with a 1.48 ERA when the lights have shined brightest in October.

Feinsand expects Suarez will not return to Philadelphia, as their top prospect SP Andrew Painter is ready to ascend to the majors and the team still has a bigger focus on re-signing DH Kyle Schwarber and C J.T. Realmuto.

Of note in Feinsand’s article is that he did not link the Astros to any of his other starters in his article: Tatsuya Imai, Framber Valdez, Michael King and Zac Gallen.
