The Atlanta Braves are trying everything they can to make sure their pitching staff doesn’t end up as depleted in the new year as it did this season.
Atlanta saw every member of the opening day rotation spend time on the injured list this year, and used a franchise-record 46 pitchers during the course of the season. Since the regular season ended with a disappointing 76-86 record, the Braves have made lots of moves at the margins, snagging pitchers off waivers and sometimes cutting those same pitchers loose in just a couple of weeks.
On Friday, the Braves completed another series of pitching moves, bringing in two new major league arms from outside the organization and dropping another from the 40-man roster.

As the club announced on X, the Braves have claimed right-hander Osvaldo Bido from the Athletics and fellow righty Anthony Molina from the Colorado Rockies off waivers. To clear room on the 40-man, they designated left-hander Josh Walker for assignment.
The 30-year-old Bido has by far the most major league experience of the group, as he has just under 200 innings under his belt and was a semi-regular member of the starting rotation for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2023 and the A’s in 2024. But he was one of the many victims of the move to West Sacramento, as he regressed from a 3.41 ERA last year to a 5.87 mark in a similar sample size this year.
Molina, 23, has pitched 52 major league games, and as one might expect for a pitcher cut loose by the 43-win Rockies, his numbers are pretty ugly. He’s got a 6.96 ERA in 94 1/3 major league innings, and the Braves are likely banking on that number shrinking a fair amount just by virtue of escaping the altitude of Denver.
Walker was claimed off waivers himself less than a month ago, which illustrates just how much turnover there has been. He’s a 31-year-old with a career 6.59 ERA in 27 big-league appearances for the New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays, and the Braves claimed him when he was waived last month by the Baltimore Orioles.
