The Houston Astros have announced they have outrighted OF Taylor Trammell and RHP Logan VanWey to Triple-A Sugar Land. Trammell has the right to elect free agency.
With these moves, the Astros currently have 38 players on their 40-man roster.
Trammell, a former first round pick of the Cincinnati Reds in 2016, has never fulfilled his promise at the big league level. He hit just .197 in 117 AB over 52 games last season for Houston, with 3 HR and 12 RBI. The versatile defender is a career .175 hitter over 428 career MLB AB.
VanWey struggled in his first taste of the majors last season, albeit in a small sample size. VanWey appeared in 9 games and posted a 5.06 ERA and 1.688 WHIP. In 10.2 IP , he allowed 15 hits, struck out 7 and walked 3.
