This is a prediction.
One of the forgotten players in this year’s MLB free agency class is Alex Verdugo. Today, we’ll be exploring the possibility of the Los Angeles Dodgers potentially getting even better by taking a swing on Verdugo.
The Dodgers are loaded across the board, but if they could stand to make upgrades anywhere, it would be in the outfield and in the bullpen.
Verdugo has the versatility to play all three outfield spots, and he could provide the Dodgers with another veteran option.

Alex Verdugo Will Join The Los Angeles Dodgers
Now, the reason why Verdugo isn’t being talked about much is because of how his 2025 season ended. Verdugo had -0.3 WAR, zero home runs, a .239 batting average, and a .296 OBP through 197 at-bats before ultimately being released by the Atlanta Braves.
If you go back to his season with the New York Yankees in 2024, it wasn’t great, but it was much better. That year, Verdugo had 0.8 WAR, 13 home runs, a .233 batting average, and a .291 OBP in 559 at-bats.
If Verdugo can get back to these numbers, which seems very reasonable, he would be a solid bat off the bench. That’s the realistic upside case.Â
How Alex Verdugo Fits With The Los Angeles Dodgers
As of now, Fangraphs has Alex Call projected to be one of the Dodgers’ outfielders off the bench next season. Call is 31 years old, which is two years older than Verdugo, and he’s never had more than 10 home runs in a season.
With Call, he doesn’t have a lot of upside, and he is just a fine bench asset.
While Verdugo has a much lower floor, he could be a fantastic fit with this team if he has a bounce-back 2026 season. As for Verdugo, he’s never won a World Series ring before. Going to the Dodgers gives him a great chance to do so, even if the playing time won’t be quite as high as it could be elsewhere.Â
At the end of the day, despite having a rough few years, Verdugo should still have a few teams interested in free agency, and the Dodgers could make a lot of sense.Â
Alex Verdugo Contract
Last year, Verdugo was on a very cheap deal with the Atlanta Braves. It was a one-year contract for $1.5 million. Given Verdugo’s previous contract, he shouldn’t cost the Dodgers much money.
