Bo Bichette remains one of the most intriguing names in MLB free agency. The 27-year-old infielder is coming off a resurgent season with the Toronto Blue Jays that saw him finish 16th in AL MVP voting despite missing the final month of the regular season with a left knee sprain.
Bichette posted a .311 batting average, .357 on-base percentage, .840 OPS, 18 home runs and 94 RBIs across 139 appearances.

He remains a fan favorite in Toronto, where he has spent his entire seven-year career, and played a crucial role in the World Series despite the Blue Jays falling one win short of capturing the title. Both sides remain open to a reunion, although it is not guaranteed.

However, there is expected to be steep competition to retain Bichette, and an AL East rival could potentially pry him away from the only organization he has ever known.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Boston Red Sox have emerged as a serious suitor for Bichette’s services in free agency. While re-signing free-agent third basemanAlex Bregman is a priority, Rosenthal reported that many within the club view Bichette as a viable alternative.

“Retaining free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman is a priority for the Boston Red Sox. But some with the club view Bo Bichette, previously a division rival with the Toronto Blue Jays, as an intriguing alternative,” he reported Friday.
It is easy to see why Bichette could step in as a replacement. Even though the Red Sox have committed to Trevor Story at shortstop, Bichette has expressed openness to moving to second base or another infield position, which could ease concerns about his defensive struggles.

He is also four years younger than Bregman, who will be entering his age-32 season in 2026. Bichette has had success at Fenway Park, where he has batted .329 with a .907 OPS in 157 plate appearances.
Bichette’s track record adds to his appeal in free agency. He is a two-time All-Star and led the American League in hits in both 2021 and 2022, cementing his reputation as one of the most consistent offensive performers in the game.
For a Red Sox team seeking to reestablish itself as a contender, or for Toronto hoping to keep its core intact, Bichette’s decision could shape the AL East for years to come.
