*PREDICTION*
Veteran right-hander Max Scherzer is on the open market as a free agent once again, and there seems to be interest coming across the league. Scherzer just completed a nice season with the Toronto Blue Jays, helping the franchise get back to the World Series for the first time in 30 years.
The veteran made 17 starts for Toronto during the regular season, and things were a little rough for him at first. Scherzer posted an ERA of 5.19 for the Blue Jays, while also putting up a WHIP of 1.29 for the season.
But in the postseason, when the Blue Jays needed him the most, Scherzer seemed to turn back the clock a little bit. In 14.1 innings of work for Toronto, Scherzer posted an ERA of 3.77, showing that he could still perform well when it mattered.
The veteran ace was also given the ultimate trust by Toronto, being named the starter for the pivotal Game 7 of the World Series. While Toronto did lose the game, Scherzer did his part, throwing 4.1 innings of work, allowing one run and four hits, helping the Blue Jays grab an early lead in the game.
While Scherzer isn’t the same All-Star pitcher that he was a few years ago, he can still be a reliable arm for the backend of a starting rotation. Scherzer still has motivation to win, and this chip on his shoulder could be a massive factor in where he ultimately signs.
The veteran has a drive to win, and it can be infectious throughout a locker room, helping any club find success. Scherzer will likely only consider a contending team, but luckily for him, there are multiple contenders who still need pitching help.
Scherzer could always return to the Blue Jays to finish what the core started, but that all remains to be seen. The veteran wants to keep things going strong, and he could fit in almost anywhere for the 2026 season.

Max Scherzer Goes Full Circle, Returns to Detroit Tigers
As Scherzer tries to figure out his next steps for his career, a return to one of his old teams could be in order. That would be the Detroit Tigers, with whom Scherzer spent multiple years earlier in his career.
Detroit could use another arm for the starting rotation, and Scherzer could give them some real depth to the pitching staff. Since the Tigers are now seen as a contender once again, it could see Scherzer be open to returning to the team to chase a World Series title.
This could be one of the better landing spots for Scherzer for 2026, and it would give the Tigers another reliable arm to help bolster the overall starting rotation. Detroit came within one game of the American League Championship Series, and adding the fiery personality of Scherzer could be good for this younger team.
Scherzer went to a World Series with the Tigers back in 2012, but the team fell short of winning it all. This could be the perfect chance for him to help the Tigers out again, while playing in a city that he loved back in the day.
