Mike Trout

*This is a prediction*

The Los Angeles Angels are starting fresh with a new manager in Kurt Suzuki, but they only signed him to a one-year contract, which doesn’t exactly provide much confidence in the Angels’ future.

With this, it will lead the question once again surrounding the future of Mike Trout. He is no longer the player he once used to be, as he has dealt with numerous injuries limiting hi impact each season.

When Mike Trout is fully healthy, his impact is still undeniable, but at 34 years old, it creates a major question as to how much longer he will be playing in the MLB. This puts an emphasis on the Angels to either accelerate their rebuild, or trade him to a contending team where he can win a championship.

At this point, a trade would be beneficial for both sides, and the team that can look to trade for Mike Trout is the New York Mets.

Los Angeles Angels Trade Mike Trout to the New York Mets

The New York Mets are going to be reshaping the team a bit this offseason as they went all-in last season to acquire Juan Soto, and had nothing to show for it, as they didn’t even make the MLB Playoffs as a wild card team.

With a talent like Soto on the team, they have a shot with him as their star, but they need better defensive play, as well as another bat in the lineup to propel the team forward as well. With Pete Alonso most likely gone in free agency, adding another bat becomes an even more pressing need for New York.

By trading for Mike Trout, he would bring the impact bat that the Mets desperately need in the lineup. Trout wouldn’t provide much from a defensive standpoint, as to stay healthy last season he switched over to primarily play as a designated hitter, but for the Mets, slotting Trout in there as well for them would be beneficial.

Mike Trout is coming off a season in which he had a .232/.359/.439 slash line with 26 home runs and 64 RBIs, showing the impact he can still have despite having been in MLB for 15 seasons. The Mets have the talent and payroll to trade for Trout, and pairing him with Soto would be ideal for them to get fully back on track in 2026.
