The Pirates have been linked to plenty of free agents this offseason and have now reportedly made a four-year offer to Kyle Schwarber ahead of the Winter Meetings, per Ken Rosenthal.Â
Schwarber is expected to make his decision within the next two weeks and the Pirates seem like a long shot to actually land him in free agency. But this development seems significant considering the Pirates haven’t signed a free agent to more than the $39 million they signed Francisco Liriano to back in 2014.
Even if the Pirates don’t sign Schwarber, they appear to be in the mix for players capable of helping improve the offense. If they also have the willingness to spend the money and compete with other suitors, then they could be on the verge of backing up their words with much-needed execution.Â
