The Blue Jays seemed determined to add an Asian ballplayer.

A new article suggests it could be an infielder who is already stateside.

Chosun Daily, a website out of Korea, has suggested that the Blue Jays are eyeing Ha-Seong Kim as a potential replacement and backup should free agent Bo Bichette sign elsewhere. While Kim is an elite defender, having won a Gold Glove in 2023 while playing for the San Diego Padres, as well being a 3X Gold Glove winner in the KBO League, his offensive metrics are more limiting, and he has just 52 career home runs – as well as a .242. average and .324. OBP – in 588 career games.

Although Kim has appeared almost exclusively at shortstop over the past two seasons, he does have positional versatility and has logged 132 games at 2nd base, while getting into 79 games as a third baseman.

Breaking: Ha-Seong Kim has opted out

He slashed .234./.304./.345. while hitting five home runs and 17 RBIS.

At the end of the season he declined his mutual team option with Atlanta and declared free agency.

Kim could be easier acquisition for Blue Jays

And while the Blue Jays first priority remains a Bichette reunion, and while they might not want to take a downgrade offensively, Kim does represent an intriguing option with a high defensive upside.
