The Toronto Blue Jays got off to a hot start in free agency this winter by signing Dylan Cease to a massive contract. Cease is a huge addition to the pitching staff after the Blue Jays fell short of the World Series this year.

Now the Blue Jays are set to dive back into free agency to continue bolstering their roster. One of their top stars, Bo Bichette, is a free agent, and he should be the team’s top priority this winter. They’ve been connected to superstar Kyle Tucker, but Bichette might fill a bigger hole on the roster.

The Athletic’s Jim Bowden recently predicted the Blue Jays would re-sign Bichette on a monster seven-year, $189 million deal this winter.

“A Bichette reunion would allow the Blue Jays to run it back and keep the Vladimir Guerrero Jr./Bichette combination for years to come,” Bowden wrote. “Bichette wants to be there and they want him there — let’s get it done.”

Bichette is likely headed for a huge deal, but there are only a handful of teams that can afford such a big contract. As a result, the Blue Jays have a solid chance to retain him if they’re willing to spend the money.

Retaining him would be a big move to make, especially after signing Cease, but it’s the kind of move they need to make if they want to get back to the World Series and beyond.
