According to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, the Diamondbacks have agreed to a one-year deal with right-hander Michael Soroka, pending a physical.

Soroka began the 2025 season with the Washington Nationals before being traded in July to the Chicago Cubs, where he finished the year. Although his 4.52 ERA and injury history may raise concerns, his past dominance and relatively young age could make him a valuable addition to Arizona’s staff.

In 2025, Soroka recorded 95 strikeouts and a 1.13 WHIP over 89.2 innings.

Adding Soroka provides stability to a bullpen that has been hit with injuries throughout last season. He won’t be a starter, according to Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro, but will doubtlessly play an important role for the Diamondbacks next year.

While the group is not complete and there’s plenty of work left to do, the move marks a step toward shaping a full rotation for 2026.

The Diamondbacks making one of the first significant moves of the winter meetings signals an aggressive approach to addressing their needs.

As negotiations continue, the Snakes will only remain active to shape up their pitching staff.
