The Baltimore Orioles are one of the more active teams so far this winter, as they’ve acquired a few key players like Taylor Ward and Ryan Helsley.

But they’re far from over, adding talent this winter. One of the biggest needs is a new starting pitcher, and fortunately, there are a few clear options.

According to Jon Heyman of The New York Post, the Orioles are among many teams showing interest in a beloved Philadelphia Phillies ace who, in 11 postseason appearances, has a 1.48 ERA.

Orioles showing interest in former Phillies postseason ace

“Orioles among teams in on Ranger Suarez,” Heyman reports. “Terrific postseason pedigree is his calling card.”

Ranger Suarez is 30 years old and has pitched for the Phillies his entire career. This past season, Suarez had a 3.20 ERA and 4.7 bWAR in one of the most impressive seasons of his career.

Suarez went 12-8 for the second year in a row, and while he’s not gone above 160 innings pitched yet in any season in his MLB career, he’s been a great starter when he’s healthy.

As Heyman mentioned, his calling card is his postseason resume. In 11 appearances, across eight starts and 42.2 total innings pitched, Suarez has a 1.48 ERA with a 4-1 record and 44 strikeouts to 13 walks and three home runs.

Against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2025 postseason, Suarez allowed a home run to his first batter, but shut down the Dodgers for five scoreless innings afterwards.

Suarez can be a high-quality starter when he’s on, and while his back issues over the last few seasons are cause for concern, if he can put that behind him and pitch a full season, there might not be a better option on the market this winter.
