The San Francisco Giants might be taking the attitude of “if you can’t beat them, bring them to our team.”
The Giants are being tied to former Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen as a potential landing spot for the right-hander.

Gallen started his career with the Miami Marlins, but has pitched most of his career with the Diamondbacks. What’s the deal with Gallen? Would he be a solid addition to the rotation?
A report from MLB.com indicated that the Giants might be a team for Gallen to consider.
“The Giants have a lot of question marks in their starting rotation behind Logan Webb and Robbie Ray at the front, with several inexperienced/unproven candidates to fill out the final three spots,” according to the MLB.com report.
“San Francisco has been rumored to be connected to Japanese sensation Tatsuya Imai, but other reports suggest the Giants aren’t looking to pay top-of-the-market prices.

“Enter Gallen, whom the Giants have had to deal with for seven seasons as he rose to prominence with the division-rival D-backs,” the article indicates.
“The right-hander emerged as one of the best starters in the NL from 2022-24, posting a 3.20 ERA over that span and helping Arizona make a surprise run to the World Series in ’23.
“Gallen, 30, had a rough 2025 campaign in which his ERA was a career-worst 4.83. But his expected ERA was more than half a run lower (4.28) and he’s not far removed from a third-place finish in NL Cy Young Award voting (2023),” according to MLB.com.
Gallen also was an All-Star representative back in 2023, too.

“He’d definitely be a lower-cost alternative to the elite arms in the upper echelon of the market, and that could entice San Francisco to sign him.”
The Giants, as the information indicates, do not want to spend a lot of money in the offseason. Right now, the San Francisco front office and manager Tony Vitello are attending the Winter Meetings in Orlando, Fla.
It’s possible that they could set up a meeting either with Gallen himself or Gallen’s agents.
But Gallen could bring a veteran presence to that Giants rotation. And Webb and Ray would not mind seeing Gallen join them at the top of the rotation one bit.

With the Winter Meetings kicking off in earnest on Monday, let’s see if San Francisco does something with Gallen. They either could do something in the next couple of days or after the Winter Meetings.
