According to MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert, former third baseman Jake Lamb will work closely with position players throughout the organization and spend time with major leaguers.

Lamb previously played six seasons with the Diamondbacks and was an All-Star in 2017. He was a crucial part of the lineup during Arizona’s playoff run that same year, but injuries prevented him from fully developing in the desert.

It’s a full-circle moment for the former D-Back, as a well-liked player returns to help guide a new generation of Arizona talent.

Bringing back an established major leaguer underscores how the franchise continues to rely on homegrown player development. Lamb’s addition gives the club a familiar voice to help shape the roster of today.

For Lamb, it’s a shift from being on the field as a player to serving as a teacher and mentor. As someone who was once viewed as one of the club’s rising stars, his experience will be valuable for young talent now and in the future.

With the Diamondbacks focused not only on acquiring talent but also on strengthening their mentorship, the hire signals that the organization continues to value past players who were part of memorable moments in team history.
