The Toronto Blue Jays have assembled quite the pitching staff after signing Dylan Cease. With Cease, he joins a Blue Jays rotation with Cody Ponce Trey Yesavage, Kevin Gausman, Shane Bieber and Jose Berrios. While this is ideal, it also leaves the future of Berrios in question as they could look to trade him, considering the pitching talent they have in their farm system as well.
With it seeming increasingly likely that the Blue Jays open up trade discussions for Jose Berrios, it is the San Diego Padres that need to do whatever possible to trade for him this offseason.

Toronto Blue Jays Trade Jose Berrios to the San Diego Padres
The San Diego Padres went from having one of the top pitching rotations in baseball to one of the weakest. They already lost Cease to the Blue Jays, Michael King is unlikely to re-sign in free agency, and Yu Darvish is set to miss the 2026 season as he recovers from UCL surgery. This leaves the Padres’ pitching rotation as Nick Pivetta, Joe Musgrove, Randy Vasquez, JP Sears, Kyle Hart, Matt Waldron, and Miguel Mendez.
The Padres need the pitching help to stay competitive in 2026, and if the Blue Jays look to trade Jose Berrios, he becomes the ideal candidate to keep the unit stable.
One thing with Jose Berrios is that he is reliable. Since 2018, he has played in 234 games and 1367 ⅓ innings, which since then leads Major League Baseball. Berrios is also coming off a 2025 season in which he had 4.17 ERA, 1.301 WHIP, and 138 strikeouts. It wasn’t his best season, but he still led the Blue Jays to a 9-5 record.
Jose Berrios has provided stable production at the very least, and if he can get back to his 2024 level, where he had a 3.60 ERA, 1.154 WHIP, Â and 153 strikeouts, trading for Berrios becomes even more ideal for the Padres this offseason.
