The Houston Astros have signed right-handed pitcher Ryan Weiss to a one-year Major League contract that also includes a club option for 2027. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager Dana Brown. Additional terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Weiss pitched the last two seasons in the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) and had a huge year for the Hanwha Eagles in 2025, going 16-5 with a 2.87 ERA (57ER/178.2IP) in 30 starts. Weiss posted a 1.02 WHIP and 207 strikeouts in his 178.2 innings. He ranked third in the KBO last season in innings and wins, while ranking fourth in strikeouts.
Weiss was originally a fourth-round pick by Arizona in 2018 out of Wright State University in Ohio. He pitched parts of five seasons in the minor leagues (2018-19, 2021-23), appearing in 132 minor league games in the D-backs and Royals organizations. He last pitched in affiliated ball for Triple A Omaha in 2023 before stints in the Independent Atlantic League, the Chinese Professional Baseball League and the KBO.
Following today’s roster move, the Astros have 39 players on their 40-man roster.
