1. Galena High alum Drew Anderson signs $7M deal with MLB’s Tigers
Galena High alum Drew Anderson, who has spent most of the last four seasons playing in Asia, will return to Major League Baseball next season after signing a $7 million deal with the Detroit Tigers, which includes a $10 million team option for 2027. The 31-year-old right-handed pitcher played in the majors from 2017-21, although he appeared in only 19 games with uneven results (1-3, 6.50 ERA). Anderson spent spring training with the Tigers in 2024 and played in Triple-A for that franchise to start that season before asking for his release to play in Korea. Anderson went 23-10 with a 2.91 ERA during two seasons in the Korean Baseball League with a dominant 2025 when he went 12-7 with a 2.25 ERA and 245 strikeouts in 171.2 innings.
2. Pac-12 moves to dismiss parts of Mountain West’s countersuit
Last week, the Pac-12 moved to dismiss three arguments in the Mountain West’s countersuit, per a report from Jon Wilner. The MW alleged promissory fraud, tortious interference with contractual relations and unjust enrichment. That countersuit was in reaction to the Pac-12’s lawsuit against the MW arguing it does not own poaching penalties both leagues agreed to in December 2023 as part of a football scheduling alliance. The Pac-12, which will add five MW school in 2026, has argued it was in a distressed situation and should not owe the $55 million contractually obligated to the MW, per the contract. Here is the full countersuit issued by the MW in October.
3. Nevada alum Leah John zeroes in on LGPA Tour spot
Nevada Wolf Pack golf alum Leah John is zeroing in on a spot on the LGPA Tour in the final qualifying stage of the LGPA Q Series. The tournament is a four-round event with the final round scheduled to finish today after it was postponed last night due to darkness. John is tied for fifth at 8 under with just 10 holes remaining when play starts this morning. The top-25 finishers plus ties receives 2026 LPGA Tour status.
