The Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, and Toronto Blue Jays are seemingly the top three teams in the sweepstakes for Chicago Cubs free agent Kyle Tucker. Tucker is projected to sign for $427 million this winter, per Jim Bowden of The Athletic, which largely shrinks his market.
But the Dodgers on Tuesday agreed to a deal with Edwin Diaz, per The Athletic’s Will Sammon. This deal could impact their pursuit of Tucker.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today on Tuesday called the Blue Jays the favorites in the Tucker sweepstakes as a result.

“The Phillies were interested in both as a back-up plan to Schwarber, but now are out of the picture,” Nightengale wrote. “The Toronto Blue Jays remain the favorite for Tucker while the New York Yankees have been open about their desire to bring back Bellinger. It could provide more clarity for free agents Bo Bichette, Alex Bregman and Munetaka Murakami.”
The Blue Jays added Dylan Cease earlier this offseason, but they seemingly still have enough money to bring Tucker to Toronto.
It seems like the Yankees and Dodgers have their eyes set on other targets right now. The Dodgers are adding to the bullpen while the Yankees are seemingly prioritizing Cody Bellinger.
It’s likely going to cost a lot of money, but the Blue Jays have a clear path to adding Tucker this winter.
