Overview:
• The Woodpeckers will continue to play at Segra Stadium in Fayetteville as a farm team for the Astros
• The new owner will be Diamond Baseball Holdings, which already owns 45 other Minor League teams
• ‘Fayetteville will continue to have great baseball,’ Mayor Mitch Colvin said
The Houston Astros are selling the Minor League Baseball Fayetteville Woodpeckers team, the Astros, the buyer, and the City of Fayetteville announced on Tuesday.

The buyer, which has 45 other teams nationwide, is Diamond Baseball Holdings of New York. It also is buying two other teams from the Astros: the Sugar Land Space Cowboys of Sugar Land, Texas, and the Corpus Christi Hooks of Corpus Christi, Texas.
The announcements list no sales price. The Sports Business Journal reported that the sale is expected to close early in 2026.
The Woodpeckers will continue to play in downtown Fayetteville’s Segra Stadium and continue to be a farm team for the Astros, training players to the Major League team, the announcements said. The Woodpeckers will keep its existing leadership, including General Manager Michelle Skinner.
“Diamond Baseball Holdings will assume club ownership and business operations, while the Houston Astros will retain responsibility for player development and baseball activities, including the on-field staff and player pipeline,” says the city’s news release. “Fans can expect the same exciting game-day atmosphere, community events and family-friendly entertainment they have come to enjoy in downtown Fayetteville.”

Diamond Baseball Holdings was founded in 2021 and has bought its teams over the past two years, Sports Business Journal said.
“Diamond Baseball Holdings is the perfect partner for the Astros. Not only do they have a successful track record of investing in communities and Minor League Baseball, they also are committed to a best-in-class local fan experience,” Astros owner and Chairman Jim Crane said in a news release.
Fayetteville built the $37.9 million Segra Stadium, which opened in 2019, for the Astros to bring the Woodpeckers to the city as part of downtown revitalization efforts.
Fayetteville Mayor Mitch Colvin in a statement thanked the Astros for investing in Fayetteville and welcomed Diamond Baseball Holdings.
“The fact that Diamond Baseball Holdings is investing in Fayetteville, just as they have in places like Charlotte, San Bernardino, Brooklyn and Memphis, is a strong vote of confidence in our community, our fans and our local economy,” he said. “Fayetteville will continue to have great baseball, great entertainment and a team our residents can be proud of.”
The Woodpeckers are a Single-A team that plays in the Carolina League. “Single-A” means that the Woodpeckers play in the lowest of the four levels of Minor League Baseball.
