No. 6 Florida State (37-13) comes off its double-bye at the ACC Tournament in college baseball on Friday to take on Duke (37-18), the seventh seed in the field, in a quarterfinal matchup at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The Seminoles wound up with the No. 2 seed in the tournament after a 17-10 mark during ACC play, while the Blue Devils were 17-13. Florida State played in its 24th College World Series in 2024 and is likely a lock for a second straight NCAA tournament appearance. Duke is likely headed to its third straight NCAA tournament bid, but hasn’t played in the CWS since 1961.

The Seminoles salvaged the finale of a three-game series with visiting UNC, then ranked No. 4, last weekend. Alex Lodise, the ACC Player of the Year, powers the offense with a .422/.483/.772 slash line to go with 17 home runs and 63 RBIs. Max Williams shares the team lead with 17 homers and Chase Williams has 14 steals in 16 attempts.

Jake Hyde drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth, as the Blue Devlis put away 15th-seeded Pitt 4-3 on Wednesday. Duke trailed 3-0 after three innings before coming back, as AJ Gracia doubled home a run in the fifth and cracked a solo homer in the seventh. Macon Winslow tied the game with a solo shot to lead off the ninth. Ben Miller slashes .328/.426/.633 with 18 homers and 58 RBIs, Hyde leads the team with 61 RBIs and Tyler Albright is 14-of-14 on the base paths.

Florida State has left-hander Jamie Arnold (6-2) lined up to start on Friday. The junior has a 2.59 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 12 starts and 66 innings with 90 strikeouts. The Blue Devils used nine pitchers on Wednesday and have junior lefty Owen Proksch (2-2) available on Friday. Proksch comes in with a 4.21 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over 51.1 innings in 16 appearances, nine of them starts, and has fanned 72.
