Major League Baseball held its draft lottery at the Winter Meetings today, and the Mets’ first pick will be the 27th overall pick in the draft. As has been the case in the recent past, the team was penalized by ten spots in the first round because of the competitive balance tax threshold that is surpassed during the 2025 season.

Two of the Mets’ current top prospects were first-round picks. The team took Carson Benge with the 19th overall pick in the 2024 draft, and thanks to his spectacular season this year, he figures to feature prominently in the major top-100 prospects lists this winter. And Jett Williams, who has already featured prominently on those lists himself, was taken by the Mets in the first round with the 14th overall pick in 2022.
