Brenham’s swimming teams put together respectable showings this weekend during the Region VI-5A meet inside the Texas A&M Recreation Center Natatorium.
The Cubettes showed the most year-to-year improvement with a 12th-place finish out of 16 teams, scoring 45 points. The Cubs, meanwhile, tied East View for 15th place out of 17 teams with 24 points.
Junior Kaitlynne Allen and freshman Kennedy Priesmeyer earned individual spots in several B-final races.
Allen qualified for Saturday’s individual races in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley after top-16 preliminary efforts the day before. Her breaststroke effort Friday was good for the final qualifying spot by just seven-tenths of a second.
Allen placed 12th in the 200 IM and 16th in the 100 breaststroke.
Priesmeyer, meanwhile, placed 15th in the 50 freestyle as one of just three freshmen in the event in either the A or B finals.
Both swimmers also raced well in their respective relays, teaming alongside a pair of other teammates in two of the Cubettes’ three relays which qualified for the B finals.
Allen and Priesmeyer, alongside senior Madeline Pierce and sophomore Marley Lonsert, teamed for Brenham’s best placing in the 200 medley relay. They finished 10th in Saturday’s B final by clocking in at just over 2 minutes and 12 seconds.
The team had placed one spot outside of the A final on Friday, but still came eight seconds short despite improving upon its seed time by over five seconds.
Allen, Priesmeyer and Pierce also teamed alongside junior Avari Oliver for the 200 freestyle relay. Brenham placed 12th in Saturday’s consolation final, remaining stagnant compared with their preliminary effort. Its preliminary effort improved upon its seed time by just under 15 seconds.
Priesmeyer and Pierce joined junior Lillian Norton and sophomore Caitlyn Cleboski in the 400 freestyle relay, earning an 11th-place result on Saturday.
Sophomores Adam Clayton and Kolton Pierce did the heavy lifting for the Cubs at regionals, being involved in both of Brenham’s point-scoring relays in addition to their individual events.
Pierce earned consolation final swims in two individual events. He placed 12th in the 100 butterfly and a 15th in the 100 breaststroke.
Clayton, meanwhile, placed 16th in the 500 freestyle after qualifying for the consolation final by just over a second in Friday’s preliminary race.
Both swimmers teamed with freshman Ethan Brumwell and sophomore Rex Boehnemann for 13th-place efforts in the 400 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay. Senior Tyler Lindemann raced the preliminaries in both events, but was replaced by Boehnemann for Saturday’s consolation finals.
