ORLANDO, Fla. — Gabe Ribas, whose tenure as the Detroit Tigers’ director of pitching spanned two front offices, has been hired as assistant pitching coach for the Colorado Rockies.
Ribas, 45, joined the Tigers in 2021 and remained on staff after the arrival of president Scott Harris the following year. He oversaw the Tigers’ organizational pitching development, working closely with pitching coaches at every level. He will now be moving onto the field himself.
Ribas came to the Tigers after four seasons as a pitching coordinator in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ system. Before that, he spent 10 years as an assistant coach in the college ranks.
The Rockies have new leadership, with Paul DePodesta returning to baseball from the NFL as president of baseball operations and Josh Byrnes taking over as general manager. Warren Schaeffer was retained as manager after serving as interim manager following the firing of Bud Black in May.
