The Red Sox appeared to be interested in Corey Seager and reportedly had discussions with the Texas Rangers about the five-time All-Star during the Winter Meetings.
According to Rangers reporter Jeff Wilson, a trade between the two teams for Seager isn’t going to happen.
“It served as a form of entertainment to the Rangers, who dismissed it as the kind of runaway rumor that can develop at the winter meetings,” Wilson wrote Wednesday. “Boston officials might have seen that the Rangers are pinching pennies this offseason and figured it was worth a shot. And the inquiry was quickly shot down.”
Seager hit 21 home runs last season and is a two-time World Series champion. The 31-year-old is under team control through 2031 after he signed a 10-year, $325 million deal with Texas in 2021.
The Red Sox have been connected to several infielders during the Winter Meetings including Ketel Marte, Pete Alonso, Alex Bregman and Isaac Paredes.
