The Orioles continued their active offseason on Wednesday after the signing of All-Star first baseman Pete Alonso from the New York Mets. The 31-year-old power-hitting first baseman is a five-time All-Star with the Mets and has 264 home runs in his seven-year career. He was the 2019 National League Rookie of the Year after leading the majors with 53 home runs. Alonso had a good season in 2025, batting .272 with 38 home runs and leading the league with 41 doubles. The deal is reportedly worth $155 million over five years according to ESPN’S Jeff Passan. By signing Alonso, along with outfielder Taylor Ward, the Orioles have added over 70 home runs to their lineup. Alonso has also been a workhorse for his career, playing in all 162 games the past two seasons and has never played less than 152 games in a full season.
