The Boston Red Sox were reportedly one of the top teams in the sweepstakes for New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso this winter. Alonso would have fit their lineup perfectly, but the slugger reportedly agreed to a deal with the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday.

Now the Red Sox will need to pivot to a different impact bat to bolster their roster.

MLB insider Jon Heyman reported on Wednesday that the Red Sox were interested in Toronto Blue Jays superstar Bo Bichette. Bichette is projected to sign a massive $189 million deal this offseason, per Jim Bowden of The Athletic.

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Bo Bichette

Bichette could be as good as gone from Toronto if the Blue Jays commit to signing Kyle Tucker.

With that in mind, the Red Sox could watch the star infielder fall directly into their laps in free agency.

Bichette is coming off a huge season with the Blue Jays in which he played through a crippling injury in the postseason and World Series. His heart and grit were on full display for the entire baseball world to see.

The Red Sox have watched firsthand as Bichette has dominated the American League East for the first few seasons of his career. With the rest of the division making big upgrades already, the Red Sox could add a star from one of their biggest rivals. The fit makes perfect sense.
