The top-ranked Blinn College baseball team left Amarillo with a series win over Amarillo College on Saturday after securing a 10-7 victory to close out the three-game set. The Buccaneers improved to 6-3 overall.
“It was a good day,” Blinn coach Dusty Hart said. “It’s always tough to play on the road, and this was our first real road test of the season. It was a three-game series in a nice stadium with a good atmosphere against a good team with a good offense. We bounced back from a tough loss Friday night and showed what we’re made of.”
The Bucs and Badgers split the series-opening doubleheader on Friday.
Blinn’s offense totaled seven hits on Saturday, with Drew Britton collecting three and Matt Quintanar finishing with a pair. The Bucs also drew eight walks.
Blinn nearly picked up a doubleheader sweep of Amarillo College on Friday, but ultimately settled for a split.
The Buccaneers picked up a 9-5 win in the opener before the Badgers earned a 13-12 walk-off victory in game two.
The Bucs took control of game one with a three-run first inning and never relinquished that momentum.
Blinn finished with 11 hits, including two apiece for Ethan Gonzalez, Caden Ferraro and Bennett Fryman. Gonzalez had a team-high five RBI.
In game two, the Bucs again jumped out to a first-inning lead, but Amarillo fought back with 12 runs between the second, third and fourth frames.
In the bottom of the ninth, Amarillo put its first three hitters on base before an RBI single ended it.
Blinn racked up 14 hits, led by three apiece for Ferraro and Quintanar. Gonzalez and sophomore Ryder McDaniel chipped in two apiece.
SOFTBALL
The Blinn College softball team took several tough defeats on the road this past weekend in doubleheaders against Trinity Valley and Tyler.
The 13th-ranked Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals took Blinn down Friday with an 11-3 result in six innings to start the day and ending it with a 6-3 win.
Blinn finished the first game with six hits, including two apiece for freshman Halle Scheel and sophomore Darian DeLeon.
In game two, Blinn held an early 3-0 lead before Trinity Valley rallied down the stretch to earn the sweep.
The Bucs finished with six hits, led by a two-hit game for Bailey Boetjer.
Blinn then traveled to Tyler to take on the Tyler Junior College Apaches on Saturday. Tyler controlled the doubleheader with wins of 11-1 and 13-2 to drop Blinn to 2-10 on the year.
Blinn finished with seven hits in the first game, led by a 3-for-3 showing for Scheel and a two-hit game from sophomore Darian DeLeon.
In game two, Blinn tallied four hits.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
The Blinn College men’s basketball team dropped a Region XIV road tilt to Tyler Junior College 85-72 on Saturday in Tyler.
The Buccaneers dropped to 12-11 overall, and 8-7 in region play.
The Apaches used a flurry of 3-pointers to build their lead in the first half and took a 45-40 advantage over the Buccaneers into the intermission.
Tyler began pulling away in the second half, and while Blinn trimmed its deficit to seven points twice, it couldn’t get any closer.
Bucs sophomore forward Anthony Isaac led his team with 24 points and 13 rebounds to record his 10th double-double of the year.
