The Colorado Rockies could be on the verge of a major trade as two-time Gold Glove-winning centerfielder Brenton Doyle is generating “widespread interest” among some major teams, according to MLB insider Ari Alexander. He reports that the Padres, Phillies, Mets and Yankees have called the Rockies about the soon-to-be 28-year-old.

Doyle is a 6-foot-3, 220-pound right-handed batter and thrower from Warrenton, Virginia. The Rockies selected him in the fourth round (129th overall) of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Shepherd University in West Virginia. He made his major league debut on April 24, 2023.

The outfielder won back-to-back National League Gold Glove Awards for center field in 2023 and 2024 and was named NL Player of the Month for July 2024 after batting .333 with 19 extra-base hits. In 2024, he slashed .260/.317/.446 with 23 home runs and 72 RBIs across 149 games. His 2025 numbers dipped to .233/.274/.376 with 15 homers and 57 RBIs in 138 games, and he did not win an award for his defense.

The Rockies were expected to consider a move on Mickey Moniak. The former first overall pick had a great year for the Rockies last year and could be retained while moving back to his natural center field position if Doyle is shipped out. A deal would also provide a temporary solution for the Rockies, who will likely want to give former top prospect Zac Veen a shot at the gig at some point.

A trade of Doyle would be a loss of a big-time talent, something the Rockies already lack, but it would signify an even deeper rebuild by the club’s new front office.
