The San Francisco Giants are interested in signing former Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Michael Kopech as their closer for 2026, per the San Francisco Chronicle’s Susan Slusser.

“According to a source, the Giants have been in touch with Michael Kopech, who had multiple injuries with the Dodgers the past two years but had good results when healthy,” Slusser wrote.

Kopech joined the Dodgers midway through the 2024 season from the Chicago White Sox, instantly slotting in as a key bullpen arm. He made 24 appearances for the Dodgers following the move, posting a 1.13 ERA through 24 appearances. He also made 10 appearances in the postseason, posting a 3.00 ERA as the Dodgers won the World Series.

He made 15 saves that season, six of which came after he moved to the Dodgers.

The right-hander made 14 appearances in 2025 and had a solid 2.45 ERA, though he spent three separate stints on the injured list before electing free agency at the end of the regular season.

The Giants began the 2025 season with Camilo Duval as their primary closer, though the reliever left for the New York Yankees at the trade deadline. Promising right-handed reliever Randy Rodriguez took over for Duval after he left, but the 26-year-old landed on the 60-day injured list with an elbow sprain at the beginning of September.

Ryan Walker took over the closer job for the Giants at the end of the season, though his 4.11 ERA leaves a lot to be desired by the Giants, who play in potentially the most competitive division in MLB.

The Giants have already shown they’re unlikely to pursue high-end free agents this offseason, and a player such as Kopech, who is looking to re-establish his value in the market, would be great for San Francisco on a one-year deal.
