AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Rangers are asking for help solving the 1992 murder of an 81-year-old man in Taylor.

On Nov. 12, 1992, Raymond Adolph Lightner was found stabbed to death at his residence off of Kimbro Street in Taylor.

Texas DPS says that Lightner was a widower who lived alone, having recently returned home from an assisted living center where he had been recovering from a glaucoma procedure.

Authorities say he had family members in Taylor and Austin and kept in regular contact with them. They also say he had spoken with a family member and another friend the evening before his body was found. Lightner was also known to play dominoes at a local lounge near his home, according to DPS.

Investigators ruled out multiple suspects in their initial investigation. DPS now says that evidence from his case has been submitted for DNA analysis.

Taylor police and the Texas Rangers say they are now actively investigating the murder, and they believe community members may have critical information that could help them solve the case.

A reward of $6,000 may be given to for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for Lightner’s murder. Anyone with information is asked to come forward by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-252-8477 or submitting a tip online.
