If the Milwaukee Brewers decide to trade Freddy Peralta, they’ll seemingly have plenty of interest.
Per The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon, the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants and Houston Astros are among the teams interested in the right-handed pitcher.
Rosenthal and Sammon also noted that the New York Mets are interested, but “it’s unclear how willing some of those teams would be to meet the Brewers’ asking price.”
The Brewers picked up Peralta’s $8 million contract option for the 2026 season in November, but The Athletic’s Andy McCullough reported that Milwaukee was expected to explore a trade for him.
Rosenthal reported last week that one person briefed on discussions said Milwaukee is considering “cracking the door open” on trade talks for Peralta. Rosenthal and Sammon noted that a Brewers official said “lots of teams” are calling and that it was “a good week.”
While Peralta may be generating interest, “no deal appears close” and “talks are fluid,” according to the report from The Athletic. Those interested in Peralta have also explored other starting pitchers, such as the Orioles looking into Miami Marlins starter Edward Cabrera.
The 29-year-old is coming off the best season of his career as he had the seventh-best ERA (2.70), the ninth-most strikeouts (204) and the 13th-best WHIP in the majors (1.08). He also had the fourth-best record among pitchers at 17-6. He finished fifth in NL Cy Young voting.
The Brewers are coming off a 97-65 season that saw them reach the NLCS for the first time since 2018. They were swept in the NLCS by the Los Angeles Dodgers, who went on to win the World Series.
While Peralta was a key part of Milwaukee’s rotation and would leave the Brewers with a big void to fill, his trade value might be worth moving on from him, especially when considering that he’ll be a free agent next offseason anyway.
