The New York Mets have their backs against the wall. They came into the offseason needing to make big moves after missing the postseason this year. But they’ve done the opposite of that.

The Mets lost Edwin Diaz to the Los Angeles Dodgers in free agency after underbidding for the superstar closer. After that, they lost reportedly Pete Alonso to the Baltimore Orioles without putting in a bid for the fan favorite slugger.

The Mets need to make some moves in the positive direction, or else they could be staring at another season without October baseball next year.

Just Baseball’s Jordan Leandre recently predicted the Mets would trade starting pitcher Kodai Senga to the Houston Astros in an offseason blockbuster.

New York Mets pitcher Kodai Senga

“Behind Hunter Brown, there are a ton of question marks for the former AL West powerhouse. Cristian Javier and Lance McCullers Jr. have track records of big league success, but it’s been a few years now for both,” Leandre wrote. “Senga comes with a bit more certainty for at least run prevention, and isn’t too far removed from being dominant.

“Given he’s owed a total of $28 million for the next two seasons, with a conditional $15 million club option for 2028, he’s cost-controlled. For a team like the Astros, that’s their theme music. They’ve resurrected several careers in their run of dominance — Senga makes a ton of sense.”

This idea would make a lot of sense for the Astros as their ace, Framber Valdez, sits in free agency right now. The Astros are likely to lose Valdez this winter.

But a trade of Senga would only make sense for the Mets if a big league hitter is headed back to Queens.

The perfect match between these two teams would involve Senga going to Houston while Isaac Paredes heads back to the Mets. Paredes has been mixed up in trade rumors early on this winter.
