LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers have already made a huge splash during the 2025 Winter Meetings, as in back-to-back winters, they managed to ink the best reliever on the market with the signing of Edwin Díaz to a three-year, $69 million contract. That signing alone would make any team’s winter a success, but the Dodgers don’t seem done and look to shake up the baseball world even more.

As first reported by Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Detroit Tigers were shopping the 2025 Cy Young Award winner, Tarik Skubal, at the Winter Meetings, and Detroit was reportedly ‘intrigued’ by the Dodgers’ potential package of prospects, which triggered trade rumors reported on the last day of the Winter Meetings. Nightengale then goes on to say that Skubal will most likely stay put in Detroit as teams, along with the Dodgers, may not be willing to trade away their future for only one year of Skubal’s services, for he could test the waters of free agency, where he is expected to make upwards of $400 million.

Trade talks between the two clubs ignited even more on Thursday morning as David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports spoke on a segment of MLB Network and stated that the talks between the Dodgers and Tigers did indeed happen, and added that Detroit is looking for a trade package similar to what the Washington Nationals received from the San Diego Padres for Juan Soto back in 2022. Now, the Dodgers can surely match or come close to the trade package that transpired between the Nationals and Padres, but it’s only a matter of whether the Dodgers want to pull the trigger on trading away their major-league-ready talent for Skubal.

If any trade between the Dodgers and Tigers transpires, the Dodgers are willing to add an arm in that package from their already stacked rotation. As first reported by ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez, the Dodgers are not opposed to shopping right-hander Tyler Glasnow. Glasnow’s name alone has had team executives poised and willing to put all their chips on his production and durability, but Gonzalez speculates that Glasnow could be involved in a long-shot trade for Skubal.
