The San Francisco Giants are a team on a mission. Because of this, they need to address some needs right here, right now, just after the Winter Meetings ended in Orlando, Fla.

The Giants didn’t make a big splash at the meetings. There were no big-name free agent signings by the ballclub. What did San Francisco accomplish there? Probably touching base with other MLB teams to see which players might be available in trade chatter.

Then, there’s the list of free agents still available on the market at this time.

With less than 70 days away from Spring Training, the Giants are going to have to pick up the pace and get some assistance.

After the meetings wrapped up, Bleacher Report decided to look at how all MLB teams look at this time. The website offered an early MLB Power Rankings view and slotted San Francisco in the No. 15 position.

“The Giants have yet to make a major move, though they did sign reliever Sam Hentges and acquired catcher Daniel Susac,” according to the Bleacher Report article.

“Ideally, the likes of Landen Roupp, Kai-Wei Teng, Trevor McDonald and Hayden Birdsong would occupy one spot in the rotation rather than three, and the club’s willingness to move top prospect Bryce Eldridge could pave the way to acquiring a controllable MLB starter.”

The Giants are willing to get rid of Eldridge, who saw some time with the big-league club last season, in order to achieve a major goal.

San Francisco, as has been mentioned a lot at Giants Roundtable, want to be in the conversation for the National League West Division title this season. The Giants don’t want to go out and put up another .500 season, which will not be acceptable at all.

Giants manager Tony Vitello is going to light a candle under the backsides of all his players. He’s going to come into his first MLB season leaning on his experience at the University of Tennessee.

But managing in the big leagues is different than college ball.

He’s going to go through an adjustment period, so Giants fans might have to be patient with Vitello during the early weeks of the 2026 MLB sesaon.

Picking up Hentges will help that bullpen, hopefully, perform better.

There’s still time for the Giants to make a move or two before Spring Training.
