CLEVELAND, Ohio — It’s no surprise that the Guardians and Stephen Vogt have reached agreement on a contract extension.

It is a surprise that he signed the deal without an announcement after last season.

The team, however, has confirmed the extension, but said no terms will be announced. They added that there would be no announcement of the extension either.

Vogt in his first two years on the job has led the Guardians to two AL Central titles and two trips to the postseason. They reached the ALCS in 2024 before losing to the Yankees. Last season they were eliminated in the wild card series this year by Detroit.

The Baseball Writers Association of America elected Vogt as the AL Manager of the Year in both season. He is the first manager to win the award in his first two seasons as a manager.

Last season the Guardians made history by overcoming a 15 1/2 game deficit in July to win the Central on the last day of the season. They still trailed the Tigers by 11 games on Sept. 4.

It is the biggest comeback to win a division title in MLB history.

When the Guardians hired Vogt, they signed him to a three-year deal. If he hadn’t signed an extension, 2026 would have been the last year of his contract.

Vogt had no previous managerial experience before the Guardians hired him. In 2023, he was the bullpen coach for the Mariners after retiring as a player in 2022.
