Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Rhett Lowder left during the second inning of his rehab start Thursday for the Louisville Bats with an undisclosed injury.

Lowder, the seventh overall pick in the 2023 MLB draft, walked off the field with a trainer after throwing just 12 pitches against the Gwinnett Stripers.

Lowder hasn’t appeared for the big-league Reds this season. He experienced elbow soreness during spring training in February.

In six starts for the Reds last season, Lowder posted a 1.17 ERA with no home runs allowed, 14 walks and 22 strikeouts in 30 2/3 innings.
