Yesterday, our news and notes failed to mention that the news came out that Stephen Vogt was extended after the 2024 season on a deal that will “keep him in Cleveland a long time.” Just like the Guardians failed to mention it.
The news was seemingly leaked by someone in Pat Murphy’s camp to put pressure on the Brewers to extend Murphy. It’s odd that the Guardians seem to consider these kind of things state secrets, but whatever. Good to have Vogt committed here long-term.
The Rangers signed three free agents in one night; catcher Danny Jansen (2 years, $14.5 million), right-handed reliever Alexis Diaz and left-handed reliever Tyler Alexander (each on one-year deals, money not yet disclosed). A night like that for the Guardians would have Paul Dolan reaching for the aspirin, I think.
The Blue Jays signed right-handed reliever Tyler Rogers to a 3 year, $37 million contract with a vesting year that would take it to 4/$48 million. That seems rich for a 35 year-old reliever, but Rogers’ stuff should hold up pretty well.
