The Texas Rangers already pulled off a big trade this offseason, but some believe another may be in the works.

Earlier this offseason, the Rangers made a blockbuster trade with the New York Mets, sending three-time All-Star infielder Marcus Semien to the Mets in exchange for outfielder Brandon Nimmo. The Rangers narrowly missed the playoffs for the second season in a row after winning the World Series in 2023, and clearly need to make some roster adjustments.

One player whose name keeps popping up in trade rumors is five-time All-Star Corey Seager. The 31-year-old shortstop is drawing trade interest from multiple teams, but Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller believes that it’s unlikely that the Rangers would actually trade Seager this offseason.

“Whether the Rangers are actually willing to trade Corey Seager seems to be changing on an hour-by-hour basis over the past month,” Miller wrote Friday. “However, it has never once sounded like something they seriously want to do.

“On Wednesday morning, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reported that the Red Sox, Braves and Yankees have all inquired about Seager, but that the Rangers haven’t had any substantial/meaningful talks about actually trading him away. Not saying there’s a zero percent chance Seager gets dealt, but it does seem extremely unlikely.”

Seager slashed .271/.373/.487 this season with 21 home runs and 50 RBIs, but only appeared in 102 games. The 31-year-old has six years remaining on his 10-year, $325 million contract, according to Spotrac, and is under contract through the 2032 season.

Unless the Rangers were looking to rebuild, it would not make sense for the team to part ways with Seager, despite his massive contract.
