The New York Mets lost Pete Alonso and Edwin Díaz during the winter meetings, and while those were more headline-worthy losses, they also lost some players in the Rule 5 Draft.
Among the players the Mets lost in the Rule 5 Draft was 27-year-old right-handed pitcher TJ Shook. Shook was the first player selected in the Triple-A phase of the draft and was picked by the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies assigned him to their Triple-A affiliate, the Albuquerque Isotopes.
Shook originally signed with the Milwaukee Brewers as an undrafted free agent in 2020. The Brewers traded him to the Mets in 2024 in exchange for Tyler Jay. Shook had not been great in the minor leagues until last season. He had a 4.72 ERA going into the season, but broke out in Double-A for the Mets.

He had a 2.34 ERA in 33 Double-A games for the Mets. He also recorded seven saves in 50 innings of work, eventually earning a promotion to Triple-A. He had a 3.00 ERA in three games at the level and even made two starts.
The Rockies will hope he can continue to thrive in spring training in Triple-A in hopes of seeing him make an impact in the big leagues soon.
