Jeff McNeil

*This is a prediction*

After the New York Mets’ recent signing of Jorge Polanco, their infield depth becomes a bit more crowded. It has become clear, though, that after the collapse they had as a team in 2025, there is going to be a complete team remodel on the way for the Mets, which includes moving on from many players that were on the team.

One player that seems to be part of that group the Mets intend to move on from is Jeff McNeil. With McNeil entering the final year of his contract at $15.75 million, plus having one year of control with a 2027 club option, makes him someone teams could have interest in.

The team that makes sense to trade for Jeff McNeil is the Los Angeles Angels.

The Los Angeles Angels have plenty of needs this MLB offseason that they must look to resolve. They finally went ahead and traded Taylor Ward to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for Grayson Rodriguez, but in doing so, they also weakened their outfield depth further. With Mike Trout seemingly moving to the designated hitter slot going forward fully to preserve his health, outfield is a major issue for Los Angeles.

The other issue is at third base, as Anthony Rendon was a headache there. With no suitable option at third base for Los Angeles, this is another thing they need to clear up in the 2026 offseason. One way they can is by trading for Jeff McNeil.

Last year, Jeff McNeil had a slash line of .243/.335/.411 with a .746 OPS, 12 home runs, and 54 RBIs over 122 games. It isn’t otherworldly production, but it is suitable production that can give the Angels another player that can produce on offense.

At 33 years old, Jeff McNeil has the playing experience that would prove to be beneficial for the Angels. That, along with his versatility to play both at third base and in the outfield, would allow Los Angeles to slot him in multiple spots to maximize their lineup the best going forward. It might not be a blockbuster move, but trading for Jeff McNeil could prove extremely beneficial for the Angels if they go through with it this offseason.
