Major League Baseball’s offseason hot stove got its hottest deal when the Baltimore Orioles signed New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso to a five-year contract.
Alonso joins an Orioles lineup stacked with stars including Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, Jackson Holliday, Samuel Basallo and more, and gives the 2026 squad some serious offensive fire power.
The Orioles have also landed their closer for the 2026 season with the signing of right-hander Ryan Helsley to a two-year contract. The deal is worth $28 million, and it features an opt-out after the first season.
With pitching a priority, the team has been linked to a possible trade with the Miami Marlins for Edward Cabrera, or maybe signing free agent pitcher Framber Valdez from the Houston Astros and more as possible targets to come.
The Orioles introduced Alonso at a 4 p.m. Dec. 12 news conference, which you can watch streaming below.
